Mindfulness
“The most precious gift we can offer anyone is our attention.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
Mindfulness is a widely approved practise known to be helpful with symptoms of Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Pain. Mindfulness is not about sitting cross legged on the floor for hours, it is about paying attention on purpose, in the present moment non judgementally with compassion. It is a simple but different way to how our minds normally behave and regular practise can be helpful in todays hectic world. We can often find we are rushing around not taking notice or we are preoccupied with events in the past that we cannot change or worried about the future which is unknown. In learning to take notice of our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations the past and future fall away making living in the present more enjoyable.
I discovered the wonderful benefits of Mindfulness when recovering from a serious illness, then successfully completed a teaching qualification in Mindfulness. I am employed by MIND Salford to facilitate an eight week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and often introduce techniques into therapy if I feel that it would be helpful.
